Charlie “The Basher” Waymire is an accomplished and versatile drummer, educator and clinician. Born and raised in Ottawa, Kansas he got is start in music at the ripe old age of 9. Drums, however, was not is first instrument.

“I started out on piano. It was fun but I had way too much energy to sit and play a piano. On a family vacation I was able to talk my parents into buying me a copy of Motley Crue’s “Shout at the Devil” and after hearing the drum fill that Tommy Lee played on the intro to that song I was hooked. Drums it would be!”

After making massive amounts of noise in his parents basement (much to the dismay of all of his neighbors) Charlie moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota (much to the delight of his neighbors) to attend Music Tech of Minneapolis, now called McNally Smith College of Music. After graduating he toured extensively around the north and spent many hours in the studio including several stints at Prince’s world renowned Paisley Park Studios.

After a 9 hour drive home from a gig in Rapid City, SD turned into an 18 hour adventure through a February blizzard Charlie decided it might be time to relocate. He also thought it would be a good time to learn a bit more about his craft.

So in June Charlie packed up and moved to wonderful sunny southern California to attend Musicians Institute (PIT) in Hollywood, CA where he studied with some of the best teachers and drummers in the world. He graduated with “Rock Drummer of the Year” honors.

Upon graduating from PIT Charlie immediately began working, live and in the studio, all around Los Angeles. He was signed to Universal Records with the hard rock act, Speak No Eviland toured extensively throughout the United States. In addition, he toured Europe with the band JKB (featuring Jeff Kollman) and has achieved critical acclaim through his work with his Rock-Fusion group, EGH. He is also a clinician for Trueline Drumsticks and has a Signature Drumstick called “The Basher”.

As well as teaching at Musicians Institute (PIT) Charlie owns and operates Abrasive Studios where he tracks drums for musicians and bands all over the world as well at TV and film. He also works with his Abrasive Producitons Partner, Ernesto Homeyer, writing and producing records as well as libraries for TV and film.
