Patching & Sanding
I know everyone out there loves to sand! Right? Well, neither do I. Originally I was hoping I would be able to rebuild the studio in 2-3 weeks. Besides having to be at MI a couple of days a week I had no other sessions (which is why I picked this time to renovate). Plus I had done this kind of work when I use to work for my Grandpa (he’s a master carpenter, I’m not). 2-3 weeks, no problem.
Boy was I mistaken…
As we tore the old covering off the wall it was apparent that this would take much more than a couple of weeks. Fabric and carpet had been glued to stucco (not a good thing), there were hole that needed to be filled, water damage from the 5 days a year that it rains in LA and a 9′x12′ mural that someone actually thought was a good idea.
It was too late to turn back at this point, demolition was done (see Studio Rebuild PT1). Plus I was in search of the ultimate drum tones and this was part of the journey.
So with that the patching and sanding began. We have two Studio Renovation Galleries up for you to see. We’ll put up more in the next post.
Enjoy the fact that you can’t get covered in dust from looking at the photos!

I wish I would have known you were doing this. You could have borrowed my electric sander. Would have saved you tones of time.

It sure is good to stumble on a little additional information when renovating (or planning too). If you are looking for a few expert tips, I also recommend checking out Masterrenovator.com, he has very good info for things that can help a lot.
