Another Great Rhythm Section!

Well I’m continuing my streak of playing with great bass players. (see my previous post Rhythm Section From Hell for more of my thoughts on this topic) Previously on Adrian’s gigs I’ve played with Philip Bynoe (Steve Vai), Kevin Chown and Tony Franklin but this time it’s with someone whom I’ve never played with before, Chuck Wright.

We had met several times before at Forty Deuce in Hollywood (he use to come out to the Royal Jelly show) and I new that he played with some great band but other than that I didn’t know much about him. So needles to say I was looking forward to rehearsal. I showed up a few minutes early and the first person I run into is Chuck who was absolutely great. He was excited about getting to play together and an extremely nice person.

So with that brief meeting I was sure this was going to not only be a good rehearsal but that the tour would also be a good one. When your going out on the road with people, whether it be 5 days or 5 months, peoples personalities matter much more than their playing abilities. Sure, Chuck is a great bass player with a great groove but he’s also a great person. That combo makes him a bad ass! That also helped make the entire make up of this band a complete package. Like I said, this tour is going to be fun.

I always find it a bit scary playing with new people, especially bass players. For one thing you never know if you will get along personally but you also don’t know if your playing styles will work together. Well with Chuck it was easy. Not only did we get along great but it was a breeze playing with him. This dude can play! After rehearsal I was talking with Maureen (keyboard player) and she even noticed it. She even said it made it easier for her!

Now that’s what I call a rhythm section from hell!!

Stay tuned for daily tour updates starting on Tuesday!
