Well the regular quarter at Musicians Institute has officially come to an end. I usually like having my breaks to myself because it gives me several weeks to just focus on work at the studio but this break is a bit different than all the others.

Every summer Musicians Institute has a summer camp called “Summer Shot”. It’s pretty cool. Summer Shot gives prospective students a chance to get a one week intensive course to see if the school is right for them. It also gives young players a chance to get hands on training by some of the best instructors in the business. Best of all it’s fun!

For me it’s great because I get to see a lot of new faces, a lot of young faces, that might not have a chance or be ready to come to MI. It’s also a great reminder of how many people there are that love playing and instrument.

I think there needs to be way more music education in our school systems, it’s much more important than most people think. For that matter I think there needs to be way more of the Arts in general in our school systems. We need to nurture our creative sides and learn to express ourselves. Everyone has a creative side, you just need to find it and have an outlet for it.

I’ll post more on these thoughts at a later date. It’s just nice to see a lot of young and enthusiastic students here at the school this week. It makes my job all the more satisfying.

So go now and pick up an instrument, a pencil, a crayon or whatever else you think you can show YOUR creative side!
